Changing Your Dial-in Number

And now, its never been easier to take your portable PC with you and dial from almost anywhere. Our new dialer has a built in phone book with all our dial up locations at your finger tips.
To fully integrate info this nation-wide system, we need dialup users to change a couple of settings. It takes just a couple minutes.
For people using Microsoft Windows, there are two methods can use to accomplish this:
- Download the new dialer package. It takes just a couple minutes to download and install. This software has almost 18,000 phone numbers and is ideal for portable computers. There are many other benefits from this program and it is easy to use.
- Simply change the number to 655-1955 (This is a new
Marshall, MN number for the Marshall area only) and add @starpoint.net after your username.
Below are instructions on doing this manually.
Select your system:- Windows 95/98/Me: Dial-Up Networking
- Windows NT 4.0: Dial-Up Networking
- Windows 2000: Network and Dial-Up Connections
- Windows XP: "Connect To..."
- Mac System 7.6 to 9.x: The "PPP" or "Remote Access" Control Panel
- Mac OS X: "Network" in System Preferences
Windows 95, 98, Me: Dial-Up Networking
- Open up the Dial-Up Networking folder and locate the icon that connects you to to NetPoint. (In 95/98, Dial-Up Networking is found in Start:Programs:Accessories. In Windows Me, it's available in Start:Settings.)
- Right-click on that icon (or menu item) and a pop-up menu will appear. Choose "Properties" from this menu.
- The Session Properties window will appear. Edit the dial up number to 655-1955 and add @starpoint.net behind your username.
- Click 'OK' to save the new settings.
Windows NT 4.0: NT-style Dial-Up Networking
- Open up the Dial-Up Networking phonebook (found in the "My Computer" folder, or available from Start -> Programs -> Accessories) and verify that your NetPoint session is selected.
- Click the button labeled 'More' and choose "Edit entry and modem properties" from the list. This will take you to the "Edit Phonebook Entry" dialog.
- You should see the field for the "Phone number" right away. If you don't, click the 'Basic' index tab and it should appear.
- Type the new number: 655-1955 in this field.
- Click 'OK' to save the new settings.
Windows 2000: Network and Dial-Up Connections
- Windows 2000 runs dialup services through the "Networking and
Dial-Up Connections" window. Here's what you need to do:
- Go to the "Start" button, then choose "Settings", then "Network and Dial-Up Connections". Find your NetPoint connection icon, and open it.
- Add the @starpoint.net after the username.
- Click "Properties".
- You should see the fields for the area code and phone number right away. If you don't, click the 'General' index tab to show the right page.
- Type the new phone number 655-1955 the field.
- Click 'OK' to save the new settings.
Windows XP Home edition: "Connect To..."
- Go to the "Start" button, then "Connect To...", and find your NetPoint connection on the list. Click it.
- The "Connect" window will appear, with blanks for "User name", "Dial" number, etc. Edit the number to 655-1955 and add @starpoint.net after the username.
- When you've finished making changes, click 'OK' to save the new settings.
- Open Internet explorer
- Click TOOLS and Internet Options
- Click the Connections tab
- Double click "Netpoint" or whatever is listed as (Default)
- Add @starpoint.net after your username
- Click Properties and change the phone number to 655-1955
- Click Okay
- Click Okay
- Click Okay
Macintosh System 7.6 to 9.x: The "PPP" or "Remote Access" Control Panel
- Apple started using the "PPP" control panel with Mac System 7.6,
and it's present in Systems 8 and 9 too.
- Open the "PPP" (or "Remote Access") control panel.
- The fields for username, password, and phone number are right in front. Add the @starpoint.net and change the number to 655-1955
Macintosh OS X: The "Network" dialog in "System Preferences"
- In Mac OS X, all of the network stuff (including dialup) lives
in the "Network" section of your System Preferences.
Changing the dial-in number here is easy:
- Open the System Preferences. (If you don't see "System Preferences" in the dock, you can reach it from the Apple Menu at all times.)
- Go to the "Network" icon, and open it up.
- Make sure it's set to "Show" the "Internal Modem" (or whatever modem you're using), and then click the "PPP" tab.
- The "Account Name" is your username. Add the @starpoint.net to it.
- Change the "Telephone Number" to 655-1955. You can add our old number as an "Alternate Number" too: 532-5867.
